Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), uses a strong magnet linked to a computer to create a detailed image of a cross-section of the body in black and white. The advantage of MRI scans over X-rays and CT scans are that MRI provides clear, detailed images of the soft-tissue structures, in addition to just the bones. There is also no radiation involved during an MRI. MRI may also be used to assess the results of orthopedic surgeries and joint arthritis.
